Transporting biological material inside ultra low temperature freezers is a complex process. Recently, we had the opportunity to transport 20 freezers from the University of Toronto to the University of Waterloo. In this case study, we will walk you through our process and how we ensured that the equipment arrived safely and on time.

STEP 1: PLANNING FOR TRANSPORT OF FREEZERS

Armstrong Scientific crew members making a lab relocation plan before executing.
Before the move, the first step is careful planning. We met with laboratory personnel to discuss the scope of the move and the timeline. We created a detailed moving plan that was then shared with lab personnel and our technicians to ensure everyone was on the same page.

STEP 2: COORDINATING WITH LAB PERSONNEL

Working closely with lab personnel, we ensured that the freezers were packed correctly and labeled. We also worked with lab personnel to devise a safe way to protect the freezers. Before unplugging each freezer it's current temperature was noted.

STEP 3: SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT

For this move, we provided our specialized trailer that allowed us to keep freezers plugged in during transport. Due to our trailer, lab managers at UWaterloo had peace of mind knowing that their specimens would arrive safely.

STEP 4: REMOVAL OF FREEZERS

The process of removing the freezers was complicated. After packing and blanket wrapping them, our technicians brought them out one by one through the building. This work took place over three days. Our team worked efficiently and quickly to ensure that the freezers were not unplugged for a long period of time. Our attention to detail is Armstrong Scientific is the first choice for transporting frozen biological materials.

STEP 5: SAFE AND EFFICIENT LAB FREEZER TRANSPORT

Once on our specialized trailer, each freezer was plugged in noting down the current temperature to ensure there was minimal temperature loss. Each freezer was strapped to our e-track system to ensure safe and secure transport.

Upon delivery, each freezer was carefully placed in designated location once again noting down it's temperature. A freezers temperature journey is an important one particularly when dealing with potential life changing research. We acknowledge the significance of this information and take pride in providing comprehensive temperature journey records to all stakeholders.

If you need to move laboratory equipment, contact us at Armstrong Scientific Transport to ensure your move is completed efficiently and effectively, with minimal impact on lab productivity. At Armstrong Scientific, we have years of experience with transporting labs. This is why we are the first choice for many in the life science community.
